Hairquest 2008

After having blond hair all summer (and hair above my shoulders for nearly 3 years), I’m ready for a change. My hair is naturally wavy, so I want to let it grow long and just curl a little bit. It’s all part of my new hippie aesthetic. As for color, I want something pretty low maintenance, so I’m thinking a nice, rich brown. Kate Beckinsale and Rachel Bilson both have shiny brown locks with a little bit of wave, so this is what I’m aiming for.

I guess that it’s only fitting to choose a photo of Charisma Carpenter (circa 2001ish) for my latest Hairquest inspiration. After all, it was her cut that inspired me to chop it all off and color it blond. Now that I’m going back to school, I need to grow it out so that I can pull it back and go. I also want to return to darker roots, so that it will require less maintenance and last longer between touch-ups. Once I move to Texas, I’ll be leaving behind my beloved stylist, not to mention giving up the income that keeps me in $200 haircuts. So, as it grows out, I’m thinking something along these lines: an easy simple bob in a rich, healthy brunette. But I may add a few caramel and honey tones to it, just to jazz it up and make it mine.

Three weeks until haircut day…

I don’t really get the whole Kate Bosworth thing. To my knowledge, I’ve only seen her in one movie, and while she was okay, I wasn’t particularly impressed. She may be talented, but really, she just strikes me as a sort of average girl. She’s attractive, but I don’t find her especially pretty, and I think she’s frighteningly thin. I don’t really care that her eyes are different colors, or that she and Orlando Bloom have apparently split up again.

HOWEVER…

I do really like her hair in the above photo. During her press junket for Superman Returns, her hair looked awful (see right). It was brassy and she had these horrible bangs. But now it looks soft and pretty. This photo is from NY Fashion Week, and I love the shorter, relaxed look. Plus, it looks as though her hair is longer in front and flippy in back, which is the way mine is, and will probably continue to be until my layers grow out. My hair appointment is on September 29, so I have about three weeks to figure out what to do…any suggestions?

See what I mean? That’s ugly hair.

My ongoing quest for new hair…

So I was reading celebrity gossip blogs tonight, and I kept stumbling upon pictures of Victoria Beckham. Most of the stories were about her getting drunk at some party, but I was primarily interested in her haircut, which seems very, well, posh. I like the sleek lines and angles. I’m definitely adding it to my list of potential styles. It was hard to find a good picture (after all, these were stories showing her all trashed), but these shots kind of give you an idea.

As an aside, what the hell is going on with her arm?! It looks like a chicken leg or something. Eeew.

Keira Knightley’s Hair

(ignore Orlando Bloom here)
I had been toying around with the idea of growing my hair out a little bit for Fall (which is also when I’m planning on returning to my redhead roots) when my stylist went on maternity leave. She won’t be able to see me again until September 29, so my layers will definitely be shaggy by then. Since this will provide me with the opporunity to get a whole new cut, I’ve been looking to celebrities for inspiration. So far, my favorite is Keira Knightley’s sleek-but-slightly-layered bob, though I think by the time I actually go in, my hair might be a little longer than hers.

I like the style in the far right photo.
